A man with active warrants from Preston County faces further legal trouble after police said he gave them a fake name when they caught him allegedly trying to sell stolen scrap metal.

Around 11:30 a.m. on June 17, Ohio County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call from Menards at The Highlands. According to court documents, an employee had pursued an apparent shoplifter, who left in a silver sedan with a printed parking tag to replace a lost plate. The man was accused of stealing a roll of copper wire and other items.

Deputies located the car at Crow’s Salvage, where a man, eventually identified as Logan Thomas Lobb, 24, of Tunnelton, W.Va., was present. Deputies said they identified Lobb by his T-shirt, which was visible on store camera footage. The car’s license plate was also allegedly a printed photo of a stolen plate.

Lobb allegedly gave deputies a fake name and a different date of birth, but had no identification. He allegedly admitted to taking three spools of copper wire from Menards and hiding them in the garage at Crow’s Salvage. Police said they found the wire that had been reported stolen, as well as two other spools of wire, and a backpack containing the packaging to the wire. The owner of Crow’s Salvage told police Lobb had tried to sell him the wire as scrap.

Police say Menards loss prevention also accused Lobb of attempting to steal $2,000 of merchandise earlier in the week, but had been stopped at the door.

While arresting Lobb, deputies allegedly found a fine, white powder in a clear plastic container, which Lobb reportedly claimed was powdered sugar he used to cut heroin. It was later found to be fentanyl, deputies said.

While being processed at the county office, Lobb again allegedly gave a fake name, signing the false name on forms. However, Northern Regional Jail staff say they received a call from a relative of the man whose name Lobb allegedly gave, identifying the arrested man as Lobb after seeing his mugshot listed online under an impersonated name.

Lobb faces felony charges of entering without breaking and forgery. He remains lodged at the NRJ in lieu of $50,000 bond.

In addition to his Ohio County charges, Lobb has active warrants in Preston County for failure to appear for possession with intent to deliver, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
